4 Best Beaches in Huatulco: Located on Mexico’s Pacific coast in the southern state of Oaxaca, Huatulco is a destination resort area that is fast becoming one of Mexico’s premier tourist attractions. With nine bays and 36 beaches, Huatulco is a beach lover’s paradise. The area is very rarely crowded, and has a “small town” feel, and with so many beaches to choose from, visitors to Huatulco say they almost feel like they have private beaches to themselves. But which beaches in Huatulco are the best? Depending on what you are interested in doing, that answer will vary. Here is a list of the 4 best beaches in Huatulco and why you should visit each.
Santa Cruz Bay

A calm and scenic beach with crystal-clear waters that are perfect for swimming, Santa Cruz Bay is one of the best beaches in Huatulco. Centrally located, the beach is easily accessible from many of Huatulco’s main hotels and resorts, and there are plenty of nearby restaurants and bars where beachgoers can pick up a drink or a meal to enjoy on the beach.
You can rent kayaks, sailboats, and snorkeling gear right on the beach, and the calm waters make Santa Cruz a perfect place to partake in any of these activities. The waters are also perfect for inexperienced swimmers, children, and the elderly. Locals and tourists alike mingle at Santa Cruz Bay, and the beach has a relaxed atmosphere, with live music, and excellent shops, bars, and restaurants nearby.
Santa Cruz Bay is also a popular spot for boating activities, with plenty of boats anchored in the harbor, and plenty of boat tours leaving from the beach. You can go on whale watching tours, tours of the other bays and coves in the region, and more.
Playa La Bocana

A long, sandy beach located on the far eastern end of the Huatulco region, Playa La Bocana has been a popular surfing beach for years. The waves on Playa La Bocana are excellent, and there are plenty of surf shops where you can rent a board and get surfing lessons, making it one of the best beaches in Huatulco for both novice and experienced surfers.
Playa La Bocana is a little more remote than most of the popular beaches in Huatulco. It’s also less developed and more rustic than some of the other beaches, but there are still plenty of shops and restaurants in the area. However, the location makes Playa La Bocana one of the least crowded beaches in Huatulco, and a perfect place for anyone looking to have a beach almost entirely to themself.
The most popular restaurant near Playa La Bocana is Los Gueros, which is located right on the beach, and serves excellent seafood, fries, local beer, chips, and guacamole.
Playa La Entrega
A calm, scenic beach with blue-green waters and golden sands, Playa La Entrega is a perfect place to spend the day. The beach is one of the more popular beaches in Huatulco, but is rarely crowded, although sometimes crowds can form on the weekends, when locals make day trips to the beach.
Aside from relaxing in the sun and walking or jogging along the beach, popular activities on Playa La Entrega include swimming in the calm waters and snorkeling. The waters are teeming with a variety of colorful fish and other marine life, making it one of the best snorkeling beaches in Huatulco. Snorkel gear is available for rent from shops located right along the beach.
Playa La Entrega also has plenty of great restaurants and bars just off the beach, so it is more than possible to spend your whole day there, grabbing a drink or a bite to eat on the beach whenever necessary. All the restaurants in the area serve excellent fresh seafood and authentic Mexican food, including fish tacos, grilled fish, shrimp cocktails, ceviche, and more.
Bahia de Cacaluta

Bahia de Cacaluta is a stunning and secluded beach surrounded by jungle and only accessible by boat or a 45 minute hike through the jungle. One of the hidden gems of Huatulco, Bahia de Cacaluta’s golden sands, rustic location, stunning rock formations, and beautiful, calm waters make it an incredible beach that is well worth the effort to get to.
Bahia de Cacaluta is an excellent beach for swimming or snorkeling in solitude, although there are no lifeguards on the beach and there is a steep decline into deeper waters, so inexperienced swimmers must exercise caution. If you prefer not to go into the water, you will not miss out just walking up and down the beach and taking in the natural beauty of the area. As you walk along the beach, you will also find some areas of the water that are sheltered by large rocks, and are better for less experienced swimmers.
Other popular activities on Bahia de Cacaluta include walking on the nature trails through the jungle, and overnight camping on the beach.
